How It's Made

Why Rice? Why Not!

It’s Economical, Nutritious & Delicious

Lower Portion Costs

  • Compared to pasta or potatoes, a 4 oz portion of rice costs approximately $0.03, which is about 50% less than pasta and 40% less than potatoes.
  • Rice is a high yield food, cooking to three times its uncooked amount.

Multiple Uses

  • Rice is a great food extender — as filler in wraps, soup thickener, and in salads.
  • Rice flour produces a light, crispy batter.

Menu Versatility

  • Rice can be served during any course of a meal, from starters and soups to entrées and desserts.

Non-Allergenic & Gluten-Free

  • Rice is non-allergenic, gluten-free, and easily digested. This makes rice an important and useful alternative for many of those on restricted diets.

Ultimate Convenience

  • Rice is a natural convenience food — it’s easy to store, and always ready to use with no washing, peeling, or chopping required.

Even More Benefits of Rice:

  • Easy to prepare: In a pot, simply add liquid to measure one inch above rice, bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
  • Easy to serve: Rice can hold for up to one hour after cooking when stored in a shallow hotel pan, covered and kept at 150°F (65°C).
  • Saves time: Make one big pot of rice every few days and store leftovers in the refrigerator. Cooked rice will remain fresh in a sealed container for 3–5 days. To re-heat, simply add 2 tbsp (30 mL) of liquid for each cup (250 mL) of cooked rice. Cover and heat on the stovetop or in the oven for about 5 minutes or until heated through.
